Chamber Music (2020)
Movement Directing for two performers
Description:
During the lockdown period, a young couple remains isolated at home experiencing a new reality. Day by day the couple converses, interacts, falls in love, quarrels, separates, mourns, self-identifies. In an effort to stay close the two come in contact with their true selves. Are they still really communicating?
The play, through the various moods of the characters, outlines the five stages of mourning – denial, anger, depression, negotiation, acceptance – and highlights manifestations of the human being’s agony towards communication and acceptance. Viewers coming into the living space of the couple in crisis, inevitably recall their personal memories and reflect on the essential values of life, perhaps reaching their own acceptance.
The direct speech, the tension, the sounds, the melodies and the silences that the actors bring on stage, orchestrate a chamber music, illuminating the special aspects of two people in isolation. The live musician completes the artistic group, which sometimes intensely and sometimes relaxingly follows the storytelling, being an integral part of the show.
The creation of the play is based on the method of directing as play-writing (directing as play-writing).
The text as well as the musical composition of the show are original and arose from the improvisations and the interaction of the actors and the musician during the rehearsals. The conception of the idea was born in the period of the first lockdown.
